Ahmedabad or 'Amdavad' in Gujarati’s tonality is situated in Western India is one of the largest cities of Gujrat which once enjoyed the pride of being the capital as well. The Sabarmati River runs through the center of the city, allowing Gandhi Ashram to reside on the banks and enjoy the pure breeze. Ahmedabad is famous for its cotton textiles, street food places, diamond cutting, and much more.

CALICO MUSEUM

The Retreat, Airport Road, Opposite Rani Sati Mandir, Jain Colony, Shahibaug, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

The calico museum was established in 1949 by the industrialist Gautam Sarabhai and his sister Gira Sarabhai, now managed by the Sarabhai Foundation. The museum was originally housed at the Calico Mills, but as the collection exemplified by time, the museum was then shifted to the Sarabhai House at Shahibaug in 1983. The museum showcase a beautiful collection of fabrics varying in colors, design, and patterns.

 

Timings: Closed on Wednesday, Thursday-Tuesday: 1:00 AM - 12:30 PM.

ZEN CAFE

Zen Cafe is a vegetarian-friendly cafe in Ahmedabad. It has multiple branches out there.

AMDAVAD NI GUFA

Amdavad Ni Gufa is an underground art gallery located in Ahmedabad. It's designed by the architect Balkrishna Vithaldas Doshi, and it exhibits works of the Indian artist Maqbool Fida Husain. The gallery represents a unique juxtaposition of architecture and art. The cave-like underground structure has a roof made of multiple interconnected domes, covered with a mosaic of tiles. On the inside, irregular tree-like columns support the domes. It was earlier known as Husain-Doshi ni Gufa. The construction was started in 1992 and was completed in 1995. There are facilities for special painting exhibitions and projecting films. Their main cafe is located above the ground, made in bricks wherever possible.

Timings: Closed Monday, Tuesday-Sunday: 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM.

SIDDI SAYED NI JALI

Siddi Sayed Ni Jali is one of the most famous mosques in Gujrat which was built in 1572-73. The crater of Masjid was Siddi Sayed. The mosque is attested by the marble tablet fixed on the wall of the mosque and has a marble screen reflecting from outside.

Timings: No time restrictions but you're instructed not to disturb during Namaz/Prayer.

No entry fees.

 

MUHAFIZ KHAN'S MASJID

Raikhad, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Muhafiz Khan's Masjid is the fifteenth-century mosque located in Gujrat which is considered to be one of the most exceptional structures in the city. The mosque was constructed in 1465 by Jamail-ud-Din Muhafiz Khan.

No entry fees.

 

SARKHEJ ROJA

Post Jeevraj Park, Sarkhej Makarba Rd, Makarba, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Sarkhej Roza is a mosque and tomb complex located in the village of Makarba which is 7 km south-west of Ahmedabad in Gujarat. It was founded by Gujrat Sultanate rulers in between 1445-51. Sarkhej was once a prominent center of Sufi Culture in India.

Timings: No time restrictions.

No entry fees.

 

HERITAGE WALK

Akshar Group 9 City Centre, 2nd Floor, Swastik Cross Road, Chimanlal Girdharlal Rd, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Heritage walk Ahmedabad is supported by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation to make people explore and aware of the culture of the old city.

The walk starts at 8 AM from Kalupur Swaminarayan temple and ends at Jumma (Jama) masjid around 10:30 AM. It covers altogether 20 destinations in around 2.5 hours.

 

Entry fees: For Indian - Rs. 200/person, for foreigner - Rs. 300/person.

 

RIVER FRONT

Sabarmati Riverfront Walkway East, Lal Darwaja, Ahmedabad, Gujarat

Sabarmati Riverfront is a waterfront developed along the banks of the Sabarmati river in Ahmedabad. It was proposed in the 1960s but the construction began in 2005. Since 2012, the waterfront is gradually opened to the public as and when facilities are constructed while some proposed ideas are actively under construction. The major objectives of the project are environment improvement, social infrastructure, and sustainable development.

Cost incurred: ₹1,400 crore (US$200 million) (November 2019)

 

Timings: Closed on Monday, Tuesday - Sunday: 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM.

Entry fees: ₹ 20 for persons above 12 years of age; ₹ 10 for kids aged between 5 and 12 years and senior citizens; free entry for kids below 5 years of age and differently-abled people.
